Fujikura Seen Posting Narrower Loss from Electronics Parts Ops

Friday, Feb 19, 2010

Fujikura Ltd.'s (TSE:5803) electronics parts business is likely to record an operating loss of 400 million yen (US$4.4 million) for the January-March quarter, an improvement from red ink of 4.8 billion yen a year earlier.

"Sales of wire harnesses for autos have been strong in Japan and China," says Senior Vice President Takashi Kunimoto.

For the entire Fujikura group, operating profit is expected to come to 2.1 billion yen for the three-month period. That would represent a 66 per cent dive from the preceding quarter. Demand is typically down in the January-March period. Still, the forecast would mark a huge improvement from an operating loss of 6.2 billion yen in the year-earlier period.

Operating profit at the telecommunications business is seen at roughly two billion yen in the quarter due to steady Chinese demand for optical materials.
